Five years ago, my husband and I went to court in Vladivostok, Russia to complete the adoption of our first son, Iliya. It was a wonderful day…though I can remember the time before he came home, when every day felt like an eternity.
After we went to court, we went to the orphanage for the last time and brought him into our lives as an active 20-month old with these precious cheeks and awesome personality.
And then, five years just flew by and we now have an active 6-year old…still with precious cheeks and an awesome personality.
He has these beautiful eyes and a smart little mind of his own.
Often pensive, always thinking of his next question.
As handsome as he is, he rarely enjoys being in front of the camera. He’s the child that causes me to, when folks tell me that their 2 year old is difficult to photograph, look at them with a knowing smile and say I’ve got this. 🙂
But then there are moments, when I convince him to just stop feeling like he HAS to smile, and to think of something he thinks is funny.
In this case, he visualized a funny scene involving Uncle Sam.
And OH, to have his eyebrows. So expressive, as they always have been.
So yeah, if you ask me if I love him, I will say “of course I do!”
And I’m thankful, every day, for him and his place in our family.
Iliya, I love you, little guy!!
