  • Welcome!

    Hi there...I'm so glad you stopped by! I'm Melissa...I am a photographer based in Montgomery, Alabama...and this is my blog-site.  It's not a blog...it's not a website...it's both!  Here, you will find a collection of just about everyone and everything I photograph, as well as information about my photography services.

    In short, I specialize in family life photography - from babies to great grandparents...and everyone in between!  I have family all over Alabama - and for this reason...if you would like me to be your photographer, and we can combine a visit with family, I will travel to you without additional cost.

    While you're here, enjoy the images you see - I hope they make you smile.  Leave a comment or shoot me an email...I look forward to hearing from you!

{Precious Family}

Last week, I met this precious family for a photo session.

We had the perfect weather…it was warm, but not too hot. It was breezy and all around beautiful.  The perfect day for taking photos!  And I was so lucky to have Mr. Blue Eyes, here, as my subject!!  Really, it doesn’t get much better than this!

We had a great, relaxing session.  Baby Will was teething and really more interested in chewing on his & his parents’ fingers than anything else.

And….ohhhh, how I love baby feet!

Baby Will has a very loving dad…I captured several sweet moments between the two of them.

And he’s still so handsome in black & white!

And Baby Will has a beautiful & wonderful mom…she was very in tune to him, and knew just how to elicit a smile out of her sweet, teething baby!

I had to catch a few photos of just mom & dad…I’ve found, in my own life, that post-child, we have much fewer photos of just the two of us….so I wanted to make sure to get a few of just the two of them.  Such a handsome couple!

This photo was taken after Baby Will had officially faded on us…but when his mama put this sweet hat on him, I couldn’t resist!

Alison, Aaron, & Will…thanks a bunch for allowing me the opportunity to photograph you all.  I had a great time meeting you and spending part of the morning with you!!

Alison - We love love love these photos!! You did an amazing job and we could not be happier!!! Thank you so much!!April 28, 2010 – 8:15 am

{An Expanding Family}

A year ago, I photographed this special little girl. At the time, she was an only child…but in just a few short weeks (well, by now, just a few short days!) she will be the big sister!

Her mom, Michele, is one of my very good friends…who is about to be a mother of two precious girls!  I was so excited to take her maternity photos…the weather was beautiful, so we headed outside for the majority of photos. The entire afternoon was relaxed and so much fun. Now that we have the maternity session finished, I really can’t wait to meet the new baby…not much longer!

Michele’s husband, Travis, is about to be sorely outnumbered…at least, he says, he’s still got he dog!

Maternity photos are always very emotional – in a very sweet way.  I think it’s because there is such anticipation, yet so much unknown…afterall, it’s obvious that a baby is growing and waiting to make her appearance, but what will she look like?  Will she have blonde hair like her mom and sister, or will she end up with dark hair like her dad?    Who will she be like?  Will she cry a lot, or will she be super easy?  Pregnancy is such a special time…

I’m thinking that Katelyn is going to be a good big sister…I’m sure there will be an adjustment period, but she’s going to do great!

And finally, I will end with one of my very favorite photos that I actually took before we headed outside. Michele is such a beautiful person, both inside & out, and I think you will agree…this photo really captures her beauty.  Taking good photos is always made easy when one has a great subject!!

Congratulations, Michele, Travis, & Kaitlyn…I am so looking forward to our next photo session together…with baby in tow!

{Allison, JT, & Boys}

My friend, Allison, is such a special person to me. She and I go waaaay back to our childhood…we went to different elementary schools, but once we hit middle school, we became fast friends. (I can’t believe that I am old enough to be able to say that she and I have been friends for about 20 years!) Once we graduated from highschool, I moved away, and we pretty much lost touch for a couple years. On the occasional trip home, I would see her, and we would pick right back up where we left off – we just have that kind of friendship.

Anyway…I got married, she got married, and then one day, Nathan (my husband) and I found ourselves living back in my hometown. I don’t really remember the order of events, but one evening, Allison & JT (her husband) invited us over for dinner. Alli and I were a little nervous – afterall, we knew we were friends, but would our husbands be okay with each other, too? Our anxiety was for naught…Nathan and JT hit it off immediately, and the four of us spent a lot of time together during that time in life.

Nathan and I ended up moving away, again, and we don’t get to see Alli & JT much anymore. We both have added children to our families, and stay very busy. But when we DO get the chance to spend time together, it’s as it always has been: picking up right where we left off.

Last weekend, we were home for Easter, and Allison had asked me about taking pictures of her boys.  Of course, I jumped at the chance!   I’d hoped to be able to get outside for some photos, but the weather was just, simply put, yucky.  So we opted for a relaxed, in-home session that turned out really well!

Here is Alli’s first-born, Cohen…

Followed closely by Cash…

Allison is a great mother – full of such love for her two boys!

Brothers are so very special…

One day, Allison will look at her teenage boys’ stinky feet, and then look back at this photo and remember what sweet toes they once had.

I love to capture mothers holding and interacting with their children.  As I was shooting this series of photos, I got quite a few of Cohen’s expressions.  Precious Cash was just happy to be there.  And I told Allison that I would entitle this series, “Motherhood:  full hands and a full heart.”

And then, JT took a break from chatting with Nathan to join us.  I LOVE this photograph…

And a few last photos to wrap up our session:

Allison & JT, thanks for letting us come hang out with y’all…we had a fabulous time (as always!) and thoroughly enjoyed your precious boys!  Can’t wait to see you again soon!

{Andree’ + Victor}

I am so excited to tell you about my Belly to First Birthday photo session collection!  This collection is a series of 4 photo sessions, beginning with a maternity session, followed by newborn, 6-month, and 1 year sessions…which is perfect for parents who want to document the first year of their baby’s life.

And with that, I would like to introduce you to Andree’ – she is my newest “Belly to First Birthday” client, and I can’t tell you how excited I am to be able to get to know her and her handsome husband, Victor…and to be able to follow them for the first year of their new baby’s life!

But let’s not start wishing life away before the baby is even born!  It’s a boy, and this is what he looks like before….

{Oh, Baby! ~ Rylee}

I was in Tuscaloosa a few weekends ago, and had a photo session with this precious baby.

rylee-blog01

I probably don’t even have to write much, because the photos speak for themselves, I think.  Rylee loves her mama and daddy, for sure!

rylee-blog03

She is an absolute doll who seemed to just enjoy being outside.  We met at the President’s mansion on the UA campus, and she was all smiles!

rylee-blog04

I love baby hands…it’s amazing to me to think that my hands were once this small.

rylee-blog05

As you can see, Rylee came prepared, with hair accessories!
rylee-blog06

We tried some tummy photos, and after I snapped this one, Rylee decided she would reeaaaallly rather not have to hold her head up, so instead of fight her on it…

rylee-blog07

…we went straight on into some family photos.  Rylee had the best time, bouncing up & down…up & down…up & down!

rylee-blog08

What trip to UA campus – especially among big ‘Bama fans – is complete without a photo with the Quad & Denny Chimes in the background?

rylee-blog09

And last, but not least, just one more photo of Rylee’s sweet face!  She is definitely the apple of her entire family’s eye!
